HWANGE
NATIONAL PARK ZIMBABWE
Hwange
National Park is a vast expanse
of rugged terrain in the far west
of Zimbabwe and ranks among the
elite of Africa's wildlife sanctuaries.
IT COVERS ALMOST 14, 620km2 of dry
Kalahari sandveld, mainly grassland
plain with scattered bush and trees..
It sustains a large variety and
density of large animals. Hwange
is home to thousands of buffalo,
giraffe, zebra , sixteen species
of antelope, including handsome
kudu and sable and twenty five different
kinds of carnivore. Hwange is especially
known though, for its elephants,
which during the rains November
- February - disperse into Botswana's
Chobe and Linyanti reserves, and
then returns again during the dry
winter months. Among the predators
are lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted
hyena and wild dog.
MAKALOLO
PLAINS AND LITTLE MAKALOLO CAMPS
HWANGE
The Makalolo area is an enormous
private concession within Hwange
National Park.
The area is ecologically diverse,
including vast open palm-fringed
plains, grasslands, acacia woodlands
and teak forests - ensuring great
numbers of animals all year round.
Elephant, buffalo, giraffe, sable,
roan, wildebeest, impala and even
gemsbok can be seen. The area is
also known for predator sightings.
Lion. Leopard, wild dog and cheetah
are often seen, along with African
wild cat, serval, honey badger,
civet and hyena. Accommodation is
in tented rooms with en suite facilities
raised off the ground on wooden
platforms. The living area includes
a dinging room, bar, lounge and
an open area for evening fireside
bush tales. Of the nine guest rooms,
one is a family room. Activities
are game drives, night drives, birding,
guided walks, hides and swimming
pool.
LINKWASHA
AND LITTLE LINKWASA CAMPS HWANGE
The Linkwasha area covers many diverse
habitats that include teak forests,
palm islands, savannah grasslands
and acacia woodlands. The animal
populations are equally diverse
and the area attracts over four
hundred species of birds. The area
is known for large concentrations
of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard,
cheetah and hyena. Roan and sable
are seen in the woodlands. During
the summer eland, zebra, giraffe
and wildebeest can be seen. Linkwasha
is a seven roomed camp and Little
Linkwasha is a three - roomed camp.
The rooms at both camps are large
with en suite bathroom facilities
and an additional shower under the
stars. The dining room, bar and
lounge area is under thatch. Activities
are game drives, night drives, birding,
guided walks, elevated hides, swimming
pool.
HWANGE
SAFARI LODGE
Landmark hotel located only six
kilometres from Hwange Main gate.
Hwange Safari lodge consists of
ninety four en suite rooms, with
bar, lounge and dining room. The
public areas and most of the rooms
overlook a sweeping lawn, swimming
pool and waterhole. The hotel is
ideal for self drive parties, but
also has a touring desk where open
vehicle game drives into Hwange
National park may be arranged.
