THE
KALAHARI
Our safaris concentrate
on two areas, Nxai Pans National Park,
and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. Nxai
Pan National Park consist of mainly
fossil pans, covered in short nutritious
grasses. On the pans are islands of
Accasia trees, forming shade for the
animals resting during the day. This
makes for beautiful scenery, unique
to the Park, which is also well known
for its Baobab Trees - Baines Baoboabs.
The park comprises an area of 2578 km2
To enjoy the full charm
of Botswana, the Makgadikgadi Pans is
an experience not to be missed. The
remoteness of this vast nothingness
with beautiful hues and sunsets, has
a special feeling of danger and mystique.
The pans are a relic of what was once
one of Africa's biggest inland lakes.
The pans consist of two main pans, surrounded
by a myriad of smaller ones.
The desert experience
focuses on wildlife species unique to
the areas, such as brown hyaena, surricate,
gemsbok oryx, springbok and the great
Kalahari black-maned lion, as well as
the geology, archaeology and anthropology
of the Kalahari. The rainy season (Dec
- Mar) also attracts the last remaining
Zebra and Wildebeest migration in Southern
Africa. The Kalahari is an off the beaten
track experience.
