ZIMBABWE
It is
a landlocked Southern African country
blessed with mineral wealth, fertile
soils ,
Wonderful scenery and plentiful game.
The two major rivers forming its borders
are the Zambezi River along its northern
frontier, and the Limpopo River, forming
the border between South Africa and
Zimbabwe. The Zambezi has spectacular
scenery as well as one of the world's
natural wonders, now a heritage site
- The Victoria Falls. The wilder,
peaceful Northern Parks offer superb
game viewing.
Our safaris are concentrated in the
areas of Mana Pools, The Matusadona
National Park and Hwange National
Park.
Along
the Botswana border where the easternmost
Kalahari sands mixes with teak forests,
is Hwange National Park , home to
some of Africa's last great elephant,
buffalo and Sable herds. This area
offers some of Zimbabwe best summer
game viewing. Hwange covers nearly
14, 620 km2 of dry Kalahari sandveld
- mainly grassland and scattered bush
and trees sustaining a great variety
and density of large animals than
any other conservation area of the
country.
The
area known as Zambezi Valley has been
reserved for wildlife protection.
Mana Pools National Park covers 22
000km2 of the region with the most
prominent features being riverine
terraces, formed over centuries by
the Zambezi's sluggish flow northwards,
leaving behind rich alluvial soils
and seasonal pools around which acacia,
mahogany, tamarind, fig, rain and
sausage trees grow. In the dry season,
wildlife, moved by the moisture, move
down from the hills.
The
Zambezi Valley is dominated by the
5000km2 Lake Kariba, a prime recreational
area. The waters are home to notably
bream and tigerfish. Numerous houseboats
cruise the lake on fishing and game
viewing holidays. The Matusadona National
Park is a magnificent lakeside escarpment
whose undulating bush-covered hills
are home to populations of elephant,
buffalo, zebra, eland, kudu, waterbuck,
lion, leopard and cheetah.
The
Matusadona and Mana Pools National
parks are reached via the town of
Kariba, or by air charter flights
form Victoria Falls. Hwange is reached
by road from Victoria Falls, or by
air charter .
